The preferred guide to the C&O Canal Towpath and Great Allegheny Passage, 335 miles from Washington, D.C. to Pittsburgh. Published by the Allegheny Trail Alliance.

 

TrailBook, the recognized "bible" of the trail, is designed to give trail users a site-by-site, mile-by-mile guide to the information they want on the trail and on the businesses and services available. An updated, weatherproof, full-color map is folded into a pocket in the back of the book. Includes 200 pages of trail knowledge, plus maps and information on 15 key trail towns.

 

It covers the planned completion of the trail to the Forks of the Ohio in downtown Pittsburgh (four miles to go!). TrailBook includes information on campsites and amenities along the C&O as well as the Passage, with sidebars on the historical significance of the trail and is loaded with pictures of what National Geographic Adventure calls "an American classic."

 

Also new this year: 10 Great Little Rides -- prime out-and-back day trips along the Towpath and the Passage.
